my philosophy of Yoga

Yoga is a sacred celebration of all the blessings  we receive from our Creator.  My primary focus is on remembering our Divine essence and experiencing  our union with Universal Consciousness.  The body is a vehicle for the spirit. Our practice is a meditation and preparation for all the experiences of life off the mat.  Through the practice of yoga we open ourselves to the realization and experiential understanding that the Divine is present in every moment, situation, thought, emotion, person and place in our lives.  There is nothing that is not Divine.

consecration

I encourage all of us to perform a consecration- offering the fruits of our actions to the Divine- and pray for grace, wisdom and inspiration to flow through us as we endeavor to serve our brothers and sisters on this path of awakening.  Let us always remember how truly blessed we are to have the opportunity to serve and let us always be aware of our union with each other and with Divinity. May we all consecrate the fruits of this experience to the Creator and know that we are vessels for the Divine will to flow through us.  May we all approach each and every moment of preparation, teaching, practice and life with the love of the Divine in our hearts.

practice

I feel that is necessary to start asana practices with dynamic sequencing that promotes the release of chaotic energy from the being, enabling the practitioner to stabilize, center and calm the energy, emotions and mind.  As the practice progresses, the asanas shift from dynamic asanas to asanas that are held for longer periods of time as the individual practitioner goes deeper and deeper into the awareness of the subtle bodies with the focus continually being on the internal experience.  Throughout the asana practice there is an emphasis on appropriate breathing, awakening of the chakras and ultimately the sublimation of energy.

Following the asana practice we move into pranayama techniques, concentration techniques and meditation techniques.  An individual class will contain at least 10-30 minutes of pranayama and 10-30 minutes of meditation.  So, it could be said that the asana practice is also a preparation for the seated practices.  My priority is to move the spine in all directions, activate the chakras, purify and energize the nadi system, sublimate and transform the energy to awaken the higher levels of consciousness in the asana practice so that the practitioner can go deeper into pranayama, concentration and meditation techniques.  Of course the physical body will be strengthened and flexibility and balance will increase.  However, our primary focus is on the expansion of consciousness and union with the Divine!
